Who We Are
NICU Cuddlers are caring individuals who donate their time within the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery to hold and comfort babies. Cuddlers receive special training to understand the needs of this unique patient population and spend most of their time holding and reading to NICU patients.
What We Do
A day in the life of a NICU Cuddler starts by reporting to the NICU and washing your hands, putting on a gown, and meeting the charge nurse for your assignment. Then, a patient is assigned to you to hold, read to, or comfort. You are then passed a baby to hold securely to meet the developmental needs of the patient. Limitations in holding are based on diagnosis and prematurity but the nurses are always great at informing cuddlers of each patient's specific needs. Shifts are for 3 hours and a cuddler should expect to hold and interact with a few patients each shift.
